Hello, I am Bella from Korea. And from June to August 2021, I applied for an internship through the “GAD-CBCGDF Sustainability Leadership Platform” of United International College. First of all, this internship is my first internship abroad. And the reason I applied for the internship was because CBCGDF is an organization that is compatible with various environmental related international conferences and globalization and development that I am majoring in.

I learned a lot and grew up on my own through the two-month internship. For example, The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) meeting of CBCGDF, IUCN WCPA亚洲会:Climate Change & Climate Change, CMS ScC-SC5, RAMSAR 59届常委会, IPCC, etc. I really got involved in many international conferences. Quite absurd, in fact, but I thought that what I had learned in college was sufficient to be of sufficient quantity and quality. However, personally participating in numerous international conferences, listening to the opinions of experts from around the world, and writing news, I realized that I still lack knowledge about sustainable development, environmental protection, wetlands, and endangered animals.

Also, I learned how to communicate and interact more with people around the world by managing the International SNS platform every day. I also learned more about what's happening in the world in real time. Many organizations around the world, including the CBCGDF, are working hard for the environment. And I acted as a bridge to inform more public about those efforts through SNS. And when I tell people about articles or news that have positive environmental impacts, I feel proud too, and I spend a lot of time making better thumbnails and hashtags. But at the same time, when environmental pollution accelerates or when delivering bad news about animals and plants, I also put a lot of effort into thinking about how to make people more aware of this incident.

Every month there were many international days I didn't know about, such as World Elephant Day, World Orangutan Day, World Indigenous Peoples Day, World Youth Day, World Chimpanzee Day, etc. Many animals were at risk of extinction than expected, and I realized more directly about the dangers of the earth in the 21st century, including not only animals, but also wetlands, forests, animal habitats, sea, air, and air pollution caused by plastics.

And this internship allowed me to learn many things, such as green development, biodiversity, sustainable development, and continuous cooperation between countries, and broadened my knowledge. Also, I am interested in environmental protection, so I will take a class called Green Business Management at UIC in the upcoming new semester. Lastly, my Chinese wasn't that good, but I'm very grateful to my colleagues for always being considerate for me and letting me know if I made any mistakes!

The two-month internship ended on Friday, August 20th. If it is short, it can be a short time, and if it is long, it can be a long time. But one thing is certain, It was really meaningful time to apply for this internship and it is certain that this internship has given me a breakthrough in protecting the environment and changing my mind for our planet. I am not sure how I will live after graduation, but as I live in the global world of the 21st century, I will surely become a person for our sustainable planet. Thank you!
