Background:

China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) will host a World Elephant Day Symposium on August 12, World Elephant Day. It is now inviting local partners to engage the public and conduct academic discussions related to elephants.

So far, CBCGDF has contacted international organizations, elephant experts and conservationists in South Africa and the United States and has formed a prototype of an online conference.

We hereby invite relevant universities and research institutions in Yunnan to participate in this conference, conduct offline expert talks and reports, and promote exchanges between each other and international experts.

Dear John Scanlon:

We are very pleased to invite you to participate in our online discussion on World Elephant Day, aiming at working together to arouse the public's attention and conduct academic research on elephant.

Recently the 15 northward migrating elephants have attracted help from all over the world, which shows the threat to the survival of elephants caused by the poaching, disappearance of elephant habitat, human elephant conflict and other factors. This also alarms us the importance of protecting elephants. We need to resist illegal hunting and ivory trade, and protect elephant habitat. What's more significant is to see the ecological value of elephants, quantify the carbon sequestration increase of elephants to forests, and so on, to invest in the protection of elephants.

With world elephant day approaching on August 12, we decided to hold expert talks and reports to promote mutual exchanges with international experts on elephant topics. And so far, CBCGDF has contacted elephant experts and conservationists from many international institutions, South Africa, the United States and other places. So, we sincerely invite you to also participate in this discussion. We are looking forward to your reply.

Finally, we will sincerely invite some of the experts from EPI to participate in this discussion and would be honored to have EPI be a co-host. What will it take for CBCGDF to join the partner list of EPI? Then it would be great for our future cooperation and the on-site protection of elephant in China.

Yours sincerely,

Zhang Daqian

The international department of CBCGDF
