The famine in Madagascar has attracted worldwide attention. On June 28, the N% Ecological Security Secretariat of CBCGDF (NESS for short) held a special work meeting regarding this matter. The director of the committee Tian Dexin presided over the meeting, clarified the focus of work, and started the rescue project of Madagascar.

According to the United Nations Food Program, southern Madagascar is experiencing a 40-year drought, and 1.14 million people are food insecure. Among them, it is estimated that 14,000 people are already in extreme food insecurity. By October, this number will double to 28,000.

The severity of the situation forces thousands of people to leave their homes, while the remaining people have to take extreme measures to survive, such as looking for food in the wild. The acute malnutrition rate of children under five in Madagascar has almost doubled in the past four months to an alarming 16.5%. Ambwembé is one of the most severely affected areas, where the child's malnutrition rate is 27%. For months, people have been eating raw red cactus fruits, leaves and locusts for a living.

Madagascar is one of the countries with the richest biodiversity in the world. Out of its 250,000 species, 70% of which are unique to Madagascar, and its biodiversity loss has always attracted international attention. In recent years, the development of international wildlife tourism activities has brought important incentives to the conservation in Madagascar. However, since the COVID-19 outbreak, local tourism income has plummeted, and local people's dependence on natural resources has risen rapidly after returning to poverty. Coupled with the drought, hunger has left local people no time or energy for conservation. Wild animals have become human food, and the forest is burnt down for agricultural purposes. Madagascar's ecosystem and wildlife are facing a major crisis.

This is a serious crisis for the people and the ecosystems. If this is not stopped in time, it will in turn bring the future life safety and sustainable development on the line and have more serious adverse effects. In response to this situation, after more than a month of preliminary research and discussion, the NESS decided to launch the Madagascar rescue project immediately. Zhou Jinfeng made seven work arrangements for the project development, saying that the CBCGDF will mobilize resources from various sources and fully support the development, including collaborating with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the United Nations Refugee Agency, etc. for donations. At the same time, it launched a social fundraising work and called for volunteers and enterprises to participate widely.
