The 5th Bluefin Tuna Day
2021/6/21 15:16:00 本站

June 12 is the fifth Bluefin Tuna Day. The establishment aims to protect the "giant pandas" in the oceans and encourage the private sector and the public to participate in marine biodiversity protection and promote sustainable fishery development. On June 12, 2017, CBCGDF successfully asked a domestic e-commerce platform giant to stop selling bluefin tuna, urging enterprises to actively fulfill their social responsibilities and contribute to the protection of bluefin tuna. Therefore, Bluefin Tuna Day was set up to enhance this endangered marine species' public awareness and protection.

Bluefin tuna plays an important role in the health and stability of the whole marine ecosystem. Their slow growth and overfishing have significantly reduced their numbers. We should all protect them as best as we can.

So far, there are three types of bluefin tuna species under the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Southern Bluefin Tuna: Critically Endangered (CR); it is a type of marine migratory fish distributed in tropical to temperate waters of all oceans globally.

Atlantic Bluefin Tuna: Endangered (EN); it is distributed in the west and east of the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. The fins are deep cyan, and the back to the abdomen is silvery gray.

Pacific Bluefin Tuna: Vulnerable (VU); it is distributed in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions of the North Pacific Ocean.

The current status of bluefin tuna has not yet been emphasized. On the occasion of Bluefin Tuna Day, CBCGDF sincerely hopes that the whole society will pay more attention to them. Bluefin tuna shall swim in the vast ocean instead of becoming a delicacy on the human table.
