CBCGDF’s letter to China Railway Beijing Group Co., Ltd on better handling of bird nests

On June 7, CBCGDF volunteers rescued some chicks along the railway of Shijiazhuang Power Supply Section of China Railway Beijing Group Co., Ltd. Volunteers found that the railway authority certainly did a poor job in relocating those chicks after cleaning up the bird nests. Unfortunately, many chicks died after a while because they weren’t saved in time. Some nests belong to Magpies, which are under the list of state-protected terrestrial wildlife which is beneficial or of significant economic or scientific value.

According to official data, by the end of May, Shijiazhuang Power Supply Section has cleaned up 11,000 bird nests. How exactly were those nests handled? What happened to the eggs and chicks in the nests? With these questions in mind, CBCGDF wrote a letter to China Railway Beijing Group Co., Ltd on June 11, suggesting that it is better to find a professional agency on handling bird nests or building artificial nests to ensure the safety of the railway.

China highly values the construction of ecological civilization and has been emphasizing the harmonious co-existence between men and nature in economic development. Intending to respect, obey, and protect nature, CBCGDF sincerely hopes that China Railway Beijing Group Co., Ltd can pay close attention to handling those 11,000 bird nests. CBCGDF is also willing to work with them to dispose of the nests correctly, relocate the birds to avoid such tragedies from happening, and maintain railway safety.
