Calling on Chinese Social Organizations and Youth to Promote Global Environmental Governance Practices

On May 28, 2021, the Deputy Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited to attend the international organization class at Beijing International Studies University and shared the theme of “Chinese social organizations and youth to promote global environmental governance” for the sophomore year students.

As a leading environmental NGO in China, CBCGDF has been actively participating in global environmental governance, addressing climate change through various aspects of biodiversity and sustainable development, and is at the forefront of related work. Then, with the case story of CBCGDF, Prof. Wong introduced how social organizations promote the UN Sustainable Development Agenda, build ecological civilization globally and spread good stories of China.

In fact, since the 20th century, the new global issues such as environment, public health and others more get the attention of the international cooperation level, globalization network spread increased liquidity within the scope of global resources, social economic and cultural ties between the countries is increasingly deepened, global governance and the complexity of the negotiation between the government more and more profound, the number of governments and NGOs involved in the negotiations is also growing. NGOs are made up of people who represent those who transcend national boundaries, care about global common interests, and share common values and understandings. They have expertise in knowledge and information, independent identity and value perspectives, and strong publicity, action and execution. In the complex game of globalization, the participation and policy influence at various levels, such as state, society and international relations, cannot be ignored.

Then, Professor Wong introduced the current perplexities and reflections from serving the community of a shared future for humankind, showing the stage for young people, and cultivating international talents.

In the end, students and international students raised their questions about the report and expressed their opinions, showing the insights of contemporary young people, and expressing their willingness to join the volunteers, hoping to influence and change the world with their efforts.
