China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is to Organize the Good Food Hero Summit 2019 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, along with the CBCGDF’s Good Food Fund from August 15th – 17th. Every summer, we invite change-makers from across China and the world – the Good Food Heroes – to share their project ideas at the Summit and learn and receive mentorship from global leaders about how to practically promote research and action towards a sustainable food system in China and beyond. This is the third summit.

The theme of this year’s Summit is “Into the 2020s”. The Good Food Fund under the CBCGDF focuses on research, communications, policy advocacy, events, public education, and incubating entrepreneurship related to the food system. It aims to facilitate shifts in food production, distribution, and consumption patterns towards a healthier, more environmentally friendly, and more sustainable food system.

It is worth mentioning that, the legendary “Food in the Anthropocene: the EAT-Lancet Commission on healthy diets from sustainable food systems” released in the early 2019, will be released its Chinese Version in the Summit. The Commission quantitively describes a universal healthy reference diet, based on an increase in consumption of healthy foods (such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and nuts), and a decrease in consumption of unhealthy foods (such as red meat, sugar, and refined grains) that would provide major health benefits, and also increase the likelihood of attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. This is set against the backdrop of defined scientific boundaries that would ensure a safe operating space within six Earth systems, towards sustaining a healthy planet.

Food systems have the potential to nurture human health and support environmental sustainability, however our current trajectories threaten both. The EAT–Lancet Commission addresses the need to feed a growing global population a healthy diet while also defining sustainable food systems that will minimize damage to our planet. This year’s Good Food Hero Summit will be honored to hold the official launch of this report’s Chinese version in China. Welcome to the Summit and listen to the exclusive sharing and communication of the report’s chief scientists.

At this year's summit, we will present the Good Food Consensus and use this as a basis to explore the Good Food Standard and the Good Food initiative. It will also be used as a basis for efforts to build a community of chefs dedicated to cooking sustainable diets and to provide more operational support to institutions that support the Good Food Consensus.
