Think Twice about Family Planning Policy: The Real Issue Is the Overspending of Earth’s Resources, Not Labor Shortage

The excessive growth of global population and as the improvement of technology in medicine, overloaded population is recognized as one of the important factors that withdraw the resources in which the earth could not stand. Therefore, family planning policy shall be made considering this context which cannot be neglected.

The world is overpopulated, resulting in the shortage of ecological resources. Natural resources could not satisfy our demand. Under this situation, policy should not be made to encourage childbearing.

China’s family planning policy is to encourage childbearing so as to increase labor force for industrial production. However, policy of this kind hasn’t taken the advancements of technology and industrial transformation into account. There’s no doubt that technologies will take over pipeline jobs. So if the policy were to be implemented in a long term, things could be messier than the shortage of labor force.

Labor shortage is only a problem on the surface, the biased data which policies should avoid. What we could do is prolong the retiring age, alter the forms of employment and adapt to the change made by technology improvements.

What we need to ponder is why our satisfaction or fulfillment comes solely from overconsumption?  If we pursue a better, natural, scientific lifestyle, the problem will be mitigated in a great scale. It is vital to focus on the efficient production instead of simply grow population to satisfy the production needs. Accordingly, if the family planning policy were to be adjusted again, it should focus on the decline rather than the increase of population.
