From  September 12 to 14, 2018, the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) will  be held in San Francisco, USA. The summit emphasized the urgency of the  threat of climate warming, focusing on the real groups that have been  and are facing severe threats, and mobilizing the true experience and  voice of the world. It will bring together state and local governments,  business, and citizens from around the world to showcase climate action  taking place, thereby demonstrating how the tide has turned in the race  against climate change and inspiring deeper national commitments in  support of the Paris Agreement.

 

The  Summit will showcase climate action around the world, along with bold  new commitments, to give world leaders the confidence they can go even  further by 2020. The Summit’s five headline challenge areas are Healthy  Energy Systems; Inclusive Economic Growth; Sustainable Communities; Land  Stewardship and Transformative Climate Investments. A series of reports  are set to be launched over the coming months and at the Summit  underlining the contribution of states and regions, cities, businesses,  investors and civil society, also known as “non-party stakeholders” to  national and international efforts to address climate change.

On  July 24 2018, the Global Climate Action Summit announced Xie Zhenhua,  Special Representative for Climate Change Affairs of China, as its fifth  Co-Chair. Mr. Xie has for many years represented the Chinese government  with distinction at both the national and international level including  as China’s chief negotiator for the landmark 2015 Climate Change  Agreement. Mr. Xie is a longstanding figure in Chinese climate change  action, having led China in energy conservation, pollutant emission  reduction and environment quality improvement since 1993, when he became  head of the State Environmental Protection Agency.

 

Xie  Zhenhua, Co-Chair for the Global Climate Action Summit, said: “I’m so  honored and delighted to be invited as the Co-Chair of Global Climate  Action Summit. 2018 is a pivotal year for the climate change  multilateral process. All the Parties are devoting efforts to the  completion of the negotiation on the Paris Agreement Work Programme at  Katowice, in order to lay the firm foundation for the implementation of  the Paris Agreement and Nationally Determined Contributions. During this  important period, the Summit will help to mobilize the national,  sub-national, business, and society actors to demonstrate their actions  and determinations, which will not only advance the global climate  governance process, but also push the global green and low-carbon  transformations.”

 

As  part of the Global Climate Action Summit, businesses, governments,  NGOs, arts and music organizations, academic institutions, and others  are hosting Affiliate Events. These events are an opportunity to create  additional arenas for exploring climate challenges and solutions that  complement Summit activities. Affiliate events range from panel  discussions and workshops to exhibits and installations.

 

The  “Climate Short Film Festival”, co-organized by CBCGDF and the Pacific  Environment, is currently calling for finalists. Founded in 1987, the  Eco-Environmental Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Pacific  Environment is committed to protecting the environment in the Pacific  Rim by strengthening democracy, supporting grassroots organizations to  unite local communities and redefining international policies. For  nearly 20 years, they have been active at the forefront of protecting  the precious ecological wealth of the Pacific coast.

 

Films that are intended to be applied for are subject to the following conditions:

1.    Duration 6-8 minutes;

2.    The  theme is related to the climate. For example, addressing climate  change, combating air (environment) pollution (work related to coal/mine  content will be considered first), clean energy, etc.;

3.    Focus on China;

4.    Works that have been subtitled in English will be considered first;

5.    Authorize the organizers of GCAS, CBCGDF and Pacific Environment to present the work during the summit.

 

All  friend who are concerned about climate change and who are interested in  applying for the films finalists, please email the works to  hsy@cbcgdf.org and v25@cbcgdf.org by August 22, 2018. Selected short  films will receive certificates from the organizers. The “Climate Short  Film Festival” is a public welfare nature, so there will be no bonus  links and no screening fees will be charged.
