On July 24th, 2023, Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng, Secretary General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), visited Langxia Jiaoye Park of Shanghai to give a lecture for students from East China Normal University as the first on the series of “Natural Evolution and Future Life Discussion”.
Centered on the theme of “Ecological Civilization: Eastern and Western Civilizations Reach the Same Destination via Different Routes”, Dr. Zhou introduced the concept and significance of ecological civilization and the path of building an ecological civilization in China to students from different majors. Taking Earth Overshoot Day as an example, he emphasized the severe crisis faced by the mankind and explained that biodiversity is the foundation of ecological civilization.
Dr. Zhou believed that the building of ecological civilization in China has made some achievements, but there are still many issues that need to be updated, such as strengthening the awareness of environmental protection and economy such as plastic book covers and take-away cutlery. In the lecture, the students learned about cultural diversity in the context of ecological civilization, learned how to perceive the game among different cultures objectively, and also understood Dr. Zhou’s positive vision of moving toward consensus between Eastern and Western civilizations.
