Hosted by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and supported by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Youth Charity Art Exhibition with the theme of “Empowering with Love, Drawing Hope Together” was held at World Design Capital in Beijing on July 1-2, 2023.

This exhibition brought together works created by hundreds of children and teenagers aged 4-14 from 75 schools and institutions in 25 cities across the country. In the three exhibition areas, including children’s painting, digital production and refugees’ handicraft, over 600 works reflected the environmental awareness advocated by UNHCR to pay attention to green energy among children and young people. There was also be a runway show about their creative ideas on environmental protection performed by 50 teenagers, with the title of “Walking Home”.

This exhibition marked the integration of education about ecological civilization with “Empowering with Lover for Pakistan”, a charity project jointly initiated by CBCGDF and UNHCR. It was committed to establishing a rational and practical perspective to observe the specific problems in reality, so as to express the public’s love for helping refugees build their beliefs for a better future through green and low-carbon actions. The climate and environmental conditions in the next 30 years largely depends on how people treat the Earth and the environment right now, which provides a huge space for reflection and creation. To this end, we call on families in China to give more attention and assistance to their peers suffering from disasters.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition held on the morning of July 1st, Mr. Vanno Noupech, representative of UNHCR in China, delivered a speech for the event through video. He hoped that all the young people who participated in this exhibition would continue to use their brushes to convey love and strength through art.

Mr. Ma Yong, Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers. He said in his speech that against the special background of global climate change, it is time to make the public, especially teenagers, understand the climate crisis, energy crisis and biodiversity crisis we are facing, comprehend and interpret with their brushes and hands, and take practical actions to promote positive changes in dealing with climate change, so that more people, especially teenagers, can participate in the action of jointly building the community of shared future for mankind.

At the event, Ms. Yang Xiting, the representative of the organizing committee of the art exhibition, Ms. Amei and Ms. Nancy, the invited judging experts of the art exhibition, and Chen Jiayi, the student representative, made brilliant speeches and comments on the organization, process and works and performances of the event. At the end of the opening ceremony, the organizers issued public welfare certificates to the children who participated in this activity.

The event was broadcast live by CBCGDF Media, and the number of online views reached 5,760. The exhibition lasted for two days, July 1st and 2nd, and the public was welcome to participate offline. Through the charm and appeal of young people’s works of art, it inspired the society to pay attention to the Pakistani refugee problem and reach a broad consensus on jointly coping with the global climate, energy crisis and biodiversity crisis.
