On June 6, 2023, the International Department of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) held an online meeting with staff from Globalisation and Development (GAD) Programme, United International College of Beijing Normal University & Hong Kong Baptist University (UIC), making preparations for the Summer Internship 2023. The purpose of this meeting was to cultivate the leadership of talents for sustainable development so as to promote China’s deep involvement of global ecological environment governance in the future.

The summer internship is part of the GAD-CBCGDF Sustainability Leadership Platform Project. In May, 2021, the project was jointly launched by the GAD Programme of UIC and CBCGDF with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). With the purpose of “cultivating outstanding young talents”, CBCGDF provides a variety of opportunities for participating international activities, and promotes young people’s active participation in international decision-making, enriching their experiences in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

The youth is the most active and vital force in the society. Their participation in global environmental governance is conducive to telling the story of China, spreading the voice of China and showing the real and comprehensive China. The hope of sustainable development for human society lies in the youth; and the realization of the UN’s sustainable development goals requires the participation of young people as a continuous powerful force.

The project has trained a number of outstanding young people in the past three years, providing them with valuable opportunities and platforms to participate in global environmental governance. The cooperation between CBCGDF and UIC will strive to become an example and template for social organizations and universities to jointly cultivate talents in international governance, and contribute to China’s role in international affairs.
