According to volunteers’ report, the sale of earthworm electric shockers on the Internet is rampant, which is a major damage to natural resources. ??China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has reported this to the relevant e-commerce platforms many times, but found that the platforms just temporarily removed earthworm electric shockers, and the attitude of more platforms is not to respond or ignore this issue. Objectively speaking, e-commerce platforms can supervise the earthworm electric shockers effectively, but they have not fulfilled their social responsibilities in this regard.

For natural damage, the corresponding restoration is extremely difficult. We cannot just simply put some artificially raised earthworms in the soil and everything recovers. The restoration of soil ecosystem involves many aspects and requires systematic research. Rather than restoration, what we need to do now is to stop this destructive behavior from the beginning.

From the perspective of market demand, most earthworms hunted enter the market as medicinal materials. But does the medicinal material market need such a large number of earthworms? This is a very fundamental question. Actually, many unnecessary demands are caused by industrial civilization system in which the capital has obtained a lot of benefits. Under the system of industrial civilization, companies pursue profits and local governments pursue GDP. Many demands have been enlarged, forming a large-scale operation from production to profit, which is exhausting the natural resources. This is the essence of the whole problem, and why we should go all out to advocate a new way of life and a new mode of production and reasonable consumption. This is also an important part of the construction of ecological civilization.

Now that ecological civilization has been written into the constitution, the Environmental Protection Law also clearly states that all individuals and units must conserve resources and protect the environment, which is required and advocated by our legal system. On the other hand, we must keep up with the development of the new ecological civilization era, constantly improve the legal system, and let more favorable and effective laws and regulations be introduced, including regulation of the platform.

The development of e-commerce does provide a lot of convenience, but it also has many disadvantages at the same time. ??It has greatly increased the scale of industrial civilization, for example, the earthworms hunted by electric shockers can be quickly sold to every parts of the country through the e-commerce platform, therefore expanding a lot of wasteful demand.
