China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was informed that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China released the Solid Waste Classification Target (Draft for Comment) to solicit public opinions. Solid waste classification is the basic work of solid waste management. “Reduce and Pick-up Plastics” Working Group of CBCGDF actively responded to the call, attached great importance to this Draft, while organizing experts to study it carefully, and put forward the following five amendments.

1. Redefine the concept of garbage and waste;

2. Overall plan the main categories of organic wastes;

3. Organic wastes need to be classified by animals and plants;

4. Focus on resource regenerationand the classification needs to be refined;

5. There is a classification blind spot in the Solid Waste Classification Catalog (Draft for Comment) that needs to be filled.

Solid waste has the dual attributes of renewable resources and environmental pollutants, and its classification is difficult, reflecting the complexity of classification. CBCGDF “Reduce and Pick-up Plastics” Working Group will continue to follow up on the revision process of the Draft, and will actively provide support and assistance.
