CBCGDF suggested the Weight Ratio be included in the National Standards, with the Net Weight of Mooncakes no less than 40% of the Total Weight

Excessive packaging of mooncakes has long been a hard nut to crack these years due to the fact that the relevant national standards are mainly formulated by the manufacturing enterprises, lacking in participation of representatives of public interest.

Thus a strange phenomenon happened - it seems to be seriously overpacked, but it is determined to be qualified according to the national standard.

At present, the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is soliciting public opinions on the No. 1 Amendment (Draft for Comments) of the mandatory national standard of "Restriction of Excessive Packaging Requirements for Cosmetics and Food". In this draft, it is mentioned that precious metals and mahogany shall not be used, which is appreciated but far from enough.  Last time I did a survey on garbage classification, I photographed a trash can, and found that a very delicate red lacquered wood box was thrown away. And it was directly thrown into the garbage truck and mixed with other garbage since nobody wants it for recyclable use.

It’s suggested that the number of layers of packaging and the weight ratio should be specified, otherwise it will be difficult to curb the current trend of excessive packaging of food.

Therefore, in the Amendment No. 1 (draft for comments) of the mandatory national standard of "Restriction of Excessive Packaging Requirements for Cosmetics and Food", it’s believed that the weight ratio should be taken into account. It should be clearly stipulated that the net weight of food such as moon cakes cannot be less than 40% of the total weight of the product.
