CBCGDF Attended the Stockholm+50 Preparatory Meeting as an Observer, with the Blueprint of Offering Blue and Healthy for Everyone Around the Globe

 

The representatives from the International Cooperation Department of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) attended as an observer the one-day Stockholm+50 preparatory meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on March 28, 2022 at invitation.

The Stockholm+50 preparatory meeting was held on 28 March, 2022 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, organized by the President of the General Assembly and chaired by Stockholm+50 co-hosts Sweden and Kenya. The meeting revolved around three consecutive interactive discussions on preparations for the Stockholm+50 Leaders' Dialogue, taking into account other preparations for the International Conference on 2-3 June, 2022.


At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Annika Strandh?ll, Minister of Climate and Environment of Sweden, made an opening speech, followed by Mr. Keriako Tobiko, Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Kenya. He stressed: We must go beyond words and promises, we need to act. SDGs, environmental pollution, and laws are all our priorities. Kenya has made many actions in ocean conservation, and African groups and developing countries must be involved in the decision-making process accordingly.

Subsequently, the representative of the President of the General Assembly, the Excellency Abdullah Shaheed, made a statement: We must take into account every human footprint on the earth. We cannot forget how we are interconnected with nature. And we will continue to bring blue and health to everyone around the world.

Ms. Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UNEP, followed up with an excellent speech as follows:

We are looking for concrete and visionary outcomes, for commitment and urgent action for a healthy planet. Stockholm+50 must include peace, respect, and it must set the tone for equality and fairness. She expressed her support for delegations from developing countries and for different voices from different backgrounds. She said:  “Science has offered us all the solutions, and what we need is to act. Given a chance, the nature will restore itself, and then be our greatest ally.”
