Information on Global Footprint Network is shared as below:

“In China, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) formed the Reduce & Pickup Plastic Working Group to explore the problem of bottled water waste at the hundreds of meetings which take place across the country each year. In response to the considerable amount of waste generated by these meetings, the organization introduced the “Green Meeting Index”, a simple, easy-to-use framework that can be used to evaluate the sustainability of events such as conferences and exhibits. Since its introduction, the index has since been adopted by an increasing number of events, including international conferences.”

On June 20, 2019, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation officially released the group standard T/CGDF 00001-2019 “Green Meeting Index” (GMI). The standard is a reference system for measuring the sustainability of conferences, exhibitions and other activities, and evaluates the greenness of conferences in terms of food, accommodation, transportation, waste, paperlessness, biodiversity and energy consumption, reflecting the spirit of green development of the 19th National Congress through specific indicators and assessing them in an easy-to-operate way. It advocates a simple and moderate, green and low-carbon lifestyle, opposes extravagant waste and unreasonable consumption, and carries out actions such as creating economical organs, green families, green schools, green communities and green travel. “Green Meeting Index” Group Standard (GMI) is the first index with clear and easy-to-use indicators on “green meeting” in China. It is reported that the GMI will be carried out in the form of field visits and evaluations. After each meeting, GMI assessors will give feedback to the organizer and provide evaluation and improvement suggestions to help the organizer better improve the meeting organization.

More news will be reported through “CBCGDF Media”. “CBCGDF Media” is a media matrix consisting of about 50 platforms, aiming at spreading ecological civilization, promoting green development, improving public scientific quality, protecting biodiversity, addressing climate and public health crises, and helping to achieve the goals of “carbon peak” and “carbon neutrality” goals and promoting the construction of global life community.
