Come and Join? – GBIF Simplified Chinese Version of the Website Online Release Event Will Be in This Autumn

In July 2018, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) species record broke through the “One Billion” mark (GBIF1billion). In the same month, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was “endorsed” by the Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and became an official date publisher of GBIF. CBCGDF successfully organized a grand release conference about publishing the data of some representative endangered species in China on the GBIF platform (including Chinese pangolin, Baiji dolphin, and great bustard). The former Executive Secretary of GBIF Mr. Donald Hobern also joined the celebration on the site.

GBIF is an international network and research infrastructure designed to provide open access to all types of life-related data on Earth. The record freely available to everyone through the GBIF.org platform provides researchers and decision makers with unparalleled information resources that bring together evidence of locations and times of observations or collections of species collected over the centuries and across the globe. Come together. GBIF provides open access to all life data on Earth. Data records provide researchers and decision makers with unparalleled information resources that gather evidence about the location and timing of observations and collections.

To date, CBCGDF colleagues have been tirelessly sharing data with the GBIF platform by using the Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT) to associate data sets. CBCGDF, together with international colleagues, first of all focuses not only on   providing better data, but also on filling gaps and contributing to the construction of an ecological civilization and the building of a community of shared future for mankind.

At the same time, as one of the partners of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (GBIF-CAS Node), CBCGDF is also adding from the perspective of the Simplified Chinese version of the language. CBCGDF participated in the translation of the Simplified Chinese version of the news release that broke the one billion mark of GBIF data “Big data for biodiversity: GBIF.org surpasses 1 billion species  occurrences” (https://www.gbif.org/news/5n3CnRaxfU4e0m6IEuMwOy/gbiforg); assisted in the translation of the simplified Chinese version of "Call for an alliance on biodiversity knowledge" (https://www.biodiversityinformatics.org/zh/call-to-action/). Most importantly, CBCGDF has assisted CAS node in completing the translation of the Simplified Chinese version of the GBIF official website GBIF.org! Moreover, the website will be officially launched in the near future! This is also an important part of GBIF's participation in the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD CoP15) to be held in Kunming in October 2020 and the development of the Global Biodiversity Framework after 2020.

At 2 pm on September 24th, the GBIF and GBIF-CAS node will jointly host the launch event of the simplified Chinese version of GBIF.org at the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is worth mentioning that the new Executive Secretary of GBIF, Dr. Joe Miller, will be there to witness the unveiling and will also make an update on GBIF, a lecture entitled “Powered by GBIF: Infrastructure to connect spatial, taxonomic and phylogenetic data”.
