Editor’s note: Three years ago, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), awarded Mr. Hong Wu, Director of Green Leaf Environmental Protection Volunteers Association (Green Leaf) the Best We-media of the 7th Environmental Press Awards in Beijing. Nowadays, Dr. Zhou especially makes a trip to Xiangtan to discuss Chinese pangolin conservation with Mr. Hong Wu. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng highly approves of Green Leaf’s efforts in biodiversity conservation and its professional team, and CBCGDF will continue to provide financial support and talent training for social organizations dedicated to environmental protection like Green Leaf. The encouragement and support across time and space reflect CBCGDF’s actual action that backs up non-governmental environmental protection organizations and its determination to boost environmental protection.

On June 22th, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, SG of CBCGDF made a special visit to Xiangtan to meet with Mr. Hong Wu. They held a talk on pangolin conservation, the solutions to ecological environmental problems, and biodiversity conservation.

Three years ago, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng awarded Mr. Hong Wu, Director of Green Leaf Environmental Protection Volunteers Association (Green Leaf) the Best We-media of the 7th Environmental Press Awards in Beijing. Now, they meet again. CBCGDF have spared no effort in supporting folk environmentalist over the past years and thinks highly of Green Leaf’s effort in dealing with major ecological and environmental problems and constructing ecological civilization. To promote ecological environment protection and biodiversity conservation needs more professional organizations like Green Leaf. CBCGDF hopes more professional investigators could be encouraged, thus contributing to the construction of ecological civilization.

Recently, CBCGDF has announced that Chinese pangolin is functionally extinct, according to its research for years. Therefore, CBCGDF calls on to carry out top protective actions to Chinese pangolins. But this opinion has aroused wide controversy. Mr. Hong Wu gives his opinion and expresses his support for CBCGDF's statement.

Over the past five years, Green Leaf Environmental Protection Volunteer Association, in cooperation with Changsha municipal wildlife conservation association, has participated in hundreds of field investigation and pangolin rescue. Hundreds of pangolins have been rescued, but none of them is Chinese pangolin. Pangolins founded by villagers in neighboring provinces were proven to be Malay pangolins. Therefore, Green Leaf agrees with the statement that Chinese pangolin is functionally extinct and appeals to the public to engage in pangolin conservation.

When Dr. Zhou learned about the financial difficulties faced by environmental protection organizations at the meeting, he said that CBCGDF will make every effort in assisting them to solve such problems and increase investment. He hopes Green Leaf to keep and strengthen communication with CBCGDF, and two organizations to work together for biodiversity conservation and the construction of ecological civilization.
