CBCGDF Representative Attended the Report of the Development Trends and Monitoring Countermeasures about the Fall Armyworm Invasion in China

On June 19, CBCGDF Representative attended a report event of the Development trends and monitoring countermeasures about the Fall Armyworm(Spodoptera frugiperda)Invasion in China, which was shared by Jiang Yuying, a researcher from the Pest Monitoring and Reporting Office of the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center(NATESC) in Beijing. The event is part of The Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI)'s Earth observation and Digital Earth science forum and hosted by Huang Wenjiang, researcher of Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

 

The researcher Jiang Yuying made a wonderful sharing from the origins, biological habit, distribution and diffusion hazard profile, the diffusion characteristics and occurrence of hazards of the pest after the invasion of China, as well as the monitoring and early warning technology and countermeasures in China.

 

Fall Armyworm, also known as Spodoptera frugiperda, is an invasive pest that feeds on crops. It is ranked as one of the world's top ten pests by International Center for Agriculture and BiosciencesCABI“State of the World’s Plant 2017”. According to a 2018 study in Brazil, this pest affects 76 families and 353 species of plants. In January this year, the first invasive fall armyworm was found in Yunnan province of China.
