May 6, 2019, an epic day – after intensive scrutiny, negotiation and consultation among the top 500 scientists and 130 government representatives in the world, and after more than a decade of brewing, polishing and drafting, the Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services (#GlobalAssessment) generated from the seventh session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (#IPBES7) finally met with the world at UNESCO headquarter in Paris, France – like a new-born baby, but with the expectations of all those who care about the future of the planet.

China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is an accredited observer of the IPBES platform, and is guided by its Secretary-General Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, actively participated in the #IPBES7. CBCGDF in words and above all in actions is a strong supporter of the policies of China and the building of a harmonious society and ecological civilization. CBCGDF works extensively with the UN, UNEP, Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), CMS, as well as IPBES and all the leading organizations, universities and institutes that support biodiversity conservation.

This Global Assessment, whether it is a human prescription for the earth, a prescription for human beings, has pointed out the direction for the future of the earth and mankind - reality is inevitably cruel, ahead we have hope. CBCGDF will continue to follow the path of this Earth doctor the IPBES platform, and effectively address the response to climate change and biodiversity loss and focus on the Global Assessment’s content and decision-making. Together with the stakeholders and the public in different fields, take effective action and call for the attention of the whole society.

As Dr. Cristiana Pasca Palmer, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations CBD, stated at the closing of #IPEBS7 on May 4th :“As a global community, we have a unique opportunity in 2020 at our COP 15 in China to come up with a real transformative and ambitious new plan for saving the planet and all people. The situation is grave, but we are all positive that with innovation, creativity, partnership, and hard work we find solutions. Leadership - from the top and from the bottom - is essential.”
