The Drifting Days of Little Harbor Seal "Gousheng" are Coming to an End. All Sectors of the Community are Cordially Invited to Participate in the Wild Release

On March 8, Tian Zhiwei, director of the "China waterfowl protection area-Tangshan" sent good news again. "Gousheng", a little Harbor seal, has been able to eat 3-4 small fish on his own and chase big fish bravely. Although it is no longer edible after being killed, it is enough to show that "Gousheng" is taking another significant step towards independent life and back to nature.

Tian Zhiwei, the director mentioned that according to the current condition of "Gousheng", as long as it remains in good condition as usual, he should be able to be released into the wild place in Panjin tentatively in mid-March when the directors and volunteers of CBCGDF in Tangshan, Panjin, Yingkou, and Dalian will be present. We also warmly welcome relevant government representatives, media from all walks of life, experts, volunteers and the public who care about "Gousheng" to participate in the wild release and witness the end of drifting days of "Gousheng".

In order to scientifically follow up and judge the situation of "Gousheng" to be released in the wild place, director Tian Zhiwei has recorded the data of "Gousheng" in detail. According to the data, "Gousheng" weighed 26.4 kg which decreased compared with March 3 (28 kg) but increased by 0.5 gram compared with two days ago. He guessed the reason for the reduction may be the muscle tightening which caused him tighter. From the data of these two days, it is estimated that "Gousheng" will gradually gain weight. In addition, the hair of "Gousheng" has been also longer and longer later on.

In order to obtain more professional and scientific advice on wild release, professor Sara Platto, an international expert in the field of green seal research and rescue, makes suggestions based on relevant data. First, when the weight of the leopard seal reaches 35kg, it is the most suitable for wild release. According to the current data, the daily consumption of "Gousheng" is too small. It is recommended to eat at least 1.5kg to 2kg of fish every day, which is divided into four meals for 24 hours. Second. Before the release blood samples need testing to ensure that the "Gousheng's” condition of the body is indeed suitable for the release.

With the greater progress of wild release schedule, these are real problems for CBCGDF harbor seal working group and for volunteers who care about "Gousheng" to the wild: how to transport? By what? In which area of Panjin to release him? How will "Gousheng" find his family? The great release process will also lay a foundation for the release of the remaining 61 harbor seals stolen during the Spring Festival in Dalian. Let's wait and see.

For those who are interested in "Gousheng" and would like to participate in the wild release, please call the CBCGDF hotline at 010-88431370, email at v42@cbcgdf.org, and participate in the wild release.
