On February 14th, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of CBCGDF and fellow staff went to the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, fully communicated with the relevant staff there on China’s pangolin natural resources, the use of pangolins as medicinal materials, and the domestication and breeding techniques of pangolins.

Dr. Zhou introduced the endangered condition of the Chinese pangolins and the entire three genera and eight species of pangolins around the world. He emphasized that in 2014, all eight species of pangolins have been included in the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species; in 2016, all species were again included in CITES Appendix I and are banned from trading worldwide.

The relevant staff of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine introduced the current national survey on Chinese medicine resources, the situation of the use of pangolin as a medicinal material, and related scientific research. At the same time, they highly concern on the endangered condition of pangolin resources and artificial breeding of pangolins. For the current situation of pangolin endangerment, they suggest that relevant departments jointly strengthen management, learn from mature experience, and strengthen research on artificial breeding of pangolins, and hope that various environmental protection organizations including CBCGDF will strengthen the promotion of banning the illegal consumption of pangolins. Together, promote the protection and rational use of the natural resources of pangolins.
