100 baby Spotted Seals Stolen from Natural Habitats, 29+7 died by far: CBCGDF Takes Emergent Action Fighting Wildlife Poaching

CBCGDF is shocked by the news forwarded from an CCAfa director last night. On Feb. 11st, dozens of spotted seals babies were reported been found in a farm in northern China's costal Liaoning Province. Local Public Security Bureau rushed to the scene after receiving tip-offs from volunteers and found 100 babies of spotted seals on the spot. Among them 29 seal pups found died on the scene.

The remaining 71 rescued pups of spotted seals were very weak and had poor immunity. Seven more died after being resettled. At present, 64 pups were fed under the careful care of ambulance personnel, but they still needed medical treatment during the feeding process.

The stolen seal cubs are mainly sold to aquariums around the world. After leaving their mother, they became very stressful. Poachers have repeatedly stolen babies from spotted seals' natural breeding areas by boat.

Highly concerned about the situation, CBCGDF established a working group this morning. Field investigation is on the way. The conservation group will organize an emergent meeting with lawyers, experts, and volunteers from the Community Conservation Area for Spotted Seals at Panjin to discuss and deploy actions.
