The largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) is a freshwater gamefish in the sunfishfamily, a species of black bass native to North America. It's becoming an increasingly popular gamefish here in China. In numerous fishing competition, hosting organizations and their business partners release the invasive fish into waters to make fishing more successful.

The invasive species seriously threatens native freshwater species. According to investigation by CBCGDF's Oppose ElectroFishing Union, there were 13,000 largemouthed bass been released to Hunhe waters in Northern China's Liaoning Province in July 2018. Volunteers also reported that large numbers of this bass were also found in Yangtze River waters, especially in Panzhihua Hydropower Station and Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station.

Learning this situation, the CBCGDF soon sent an official letter to China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, suggesting a ban on this practice by many fishing event organizers to safeguard natural freshwater ecosystem and a balanced biodiversity. The letter was also copied to the Chinese Fishing Association and the Chinese Leisure Fishing Association.

One month later,  the Beijing-based NGO have received an official reply from the Chinese Fishing Association, announcing that the fish species will be deleted from the list of target fishing acquisitions in their future fishing competition events. CBCGDF soon gave a big thumbs-up to the response. This is a step forward towards the country's Eco-civilization.
