The data was provided by Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the General Secretary of CBCGDF, who recently recorded the Ruppia Maritima in Yingwuzhou ecological wetland in Jinshan District, Shanghai.

Ruppia maritima is widely distributed in temperate and subtropical coastal waters and salt lakes around the world, and can grow in coastal salt pans or inland saline lakes.

Compared with other submerged plants, Ruppia maritima has stronger adaptability to the environment. It can tolerate a wider range of salinity and alkalinity, and has better adaptability to water temperature. It can survive in low temperature, but high temperatures may not be conducive to its growth.

Ruppia maritima has the function of water purification. It can release allelochemicals to effectively inhibit the excessive growth of harmful algae, improve the transparency and dissolved oxygen content of water, promote the absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients and accelerate the denitrification of root microorganisms.

Citizen scientists are important contributors to biodiversity conservation and biodiversity informatics. Through the GBIF data platform, CBCGDF is making efforts to promote public participation in biodiversity conservation.
