This is a Community Conservation Area for Chinese Honeybees supported by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), located in Tongbai Mountain, Henan Province, China. It aims to protect the traditional Chinese honeybees. Local beekeepers continue to use the beekeeping methods passed down by their ancestors.

The biggest challenge they face is the market’s preference for standardized honey production under industrial civilization and the presence of counterfeit and substandard honey on e-commerce platforms.

The concept of “Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood” (BCON) was proposed by Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of CBCGDF. It aims to encourage biodiversity conservation in production and daily life. In fact, some practices of CCAfa embody the essence of BCON. Just like in this case, the beekeepers’ goal is not necessarily to protect biodiversity, but rather to increase their income. However, their good practices have objectively had a positive impact on nature.
