On May 12, 2023, we will celebrate our second International Plant Health Day(IDPH). This year, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) One Health Commitee calls to promote global environmental governance with One Health working method which means a comprehensive health concept closely intertwined with biodiversity conservation and green development.

On March 29, 2022, the United Nations designated 12 May the International Day of Plant Health to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development.

Both our health and the health of our planet depend on plants. We depend on them for 80 percent of the food we eat and 98 percent of the oxygen we breathe.

CBCGDF One Health Commitee recommends biological pest control and ecological agriculture. As an observer of BRS, we believe that in the cites, although the grassland outside is very good, but it is not natural and far away from nature. The grassland in communities can be not sprayed with pesticides or sprayed with less pesticides, and weeds do not need to be weeded, and weeds should be allowed to grow naturally. Because weeds are biodiversity and nature.

We oppose the use of dangerous and banned pesticides and calls for sustainable ecological agriculture. We believe that because prohibited pesticides pose a huge threat to the health of plants, animals, people and our environment. An example: In recent years, more than 80 endangered oriental white storks(Ciconia boyciana) have died in the wetlands of Tianjin because they accidentally ate small fish in nearby fish ponds. The cause of death was that the fish ponds were sprayed with a large amount of highly toxic pesticides. So, what about those who eat these fish? What about their health?

In the field of agriculture, we recommend sustainable ecological agriculture. For pests, it is recommended to adopt biological control methods to control pests. We have practiced the method of biological control in several civilization stations, and the results have proved that it is effective.

One Health means that animal and plant health, human health and environmental health are intertwined, interdependent and mutually influencing in nature. In fact, the three-year COVID-19 pandemic has further confirmed the same health philosophy. The concept has been validated in world health, food safety, environment and economy. The working method of One Health is currently widely adopted in the world and is also highly recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
