On April 26, 2023, according to a report sent by a volunteer to the “Clean Internet for Conophytum”, some netizens sold wild Conophytum in the flower hobby group. As the picture shows:

Pictures showed four large bags of Conophytum plants which were poached from their natural habitat.

It can be seen from the pictures that some wild Conophytum plants had died because of this kind of illegal harvesting.

“Clean Internet for Conophytum” seeks more details and evidence on this matter.

The “Clean Internet for Conophytum” has been extensively collecting clues on the illegal Conophytum trade since March 2023, including sales evidence and clues of wild Conophytum sellers at home and abroad, e-commerce platforms and other social platforms. Actions of these sellers have damaged the environment, violated the environmental protection laws of countries such as China and South Africa, and affected human survival and sustainable development. Moreover, it is precisely because of the illegal harvesting by poachers that all species of Conophytum have entered Appendix III of the CITES. In order to jointly build a community of life on earth, we are preparing to file an environmental public interest lawsuit.
