The alleged import of 100,000 monkeys has raised concerns among the Biology and Science Ethics Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF-BASE). The committee has published two consecutive articles regarding this issue, including one titled "Who is requesting the 100,000 Endangered Macaque from Sri Lanka?" on April 25, 2023. They have urged the institution involved in this matter to disclose information proactively to avoid unnecessary suspicion and criticism of the country.

In the afternoon of April 25th, hours after the BASE published the 2nd article expressing concerns, Zhejiang Wuyu Animal Breeding Co., Limited, the company proposing to buy the Toque Macaques, contacted CBCGDF to clarify the facts. The company stated that they intend to purchase 1,000 Toque Macaques instead of the alleged 100,000. According to the company's representative, Sri Lanka is currently facing a severe human-monkey conflict, and there are different approaches to handling it. Some are advocating for the killing of the monkeys, while others are looking to sell them. In this context, the company is interested in purchasing 1,000 Toque Macaques.

It is essential to note that this proposed purchase is the decision of an individual company and does not represent the stance of the country or any other institution. The clarification from Zhejiang Wuyu Animal Breeding Co., Limited is a positive development as it sheds light on the actual intention of the company. The CBCGDF-BASE continues to monitor this situation closely and will keep the public informed of any updates.

In conclusion, the CBCGDF-BASE has raised concerns regarding the alleged import of 100,000 monkeys, and the company involved in the matter has clarified that they only intend to purchase 1,000 Toque Macaques. It is essential to remain vigilant and ensure that ethical practices are followed to protect endangered species and preserve biodiversity.
