Hope the Ailurus Can Go Home Soon! Three Questions on "April.29 Great Harm to Endangered Wildlife" Case

"The case was solved, but the Ailurus have been kept in captivity." Recently, some wildlife conservation volunteers reported to China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) that the only about 40 remain of 63 live Ailurus rescued in the "April. 29 Great Harm to Endangered Wildlife".

The rescued Ailurus have been fostered in Bifengxia Wildlife Park. Due to the great stress response in the captive breeding environment, the Ailurus died one after another during the seven months of foster care.

The Policy and Law Department of CBCGDF is highly concerned about this and has raised several questions:

1. Are the Ailurus involved in the "April.29" case under the supervision of the Forestry and Grassland Department or the Public Security Bureau? If it is under the supervision of the Public Security Bureau, when will this batch of Ailurus be handed over to the Forestry and Grassland Department?

2. Does Bifengxia Wildlife Park have the qualification and ability to treat wild animals?

3. If the Ailurus cannot be released into the wild due to special reasons such as case trials at this stage, will the public security department consult with the local forestry and grassland department to consider and study the plans for future release, including the time and place of release?

In fact, the shorter the contact time of rescued and sheltered wild animals with humans and unnatural environments, the more favorable conditions for future releases will be. It is very important for the rescued wild animals to be well rescued and returned to the wild environment in time.

We suggest that the relevant public security departments after counting, registering, taking photos, and videotaping the live wild animals confiscated in wildlife crime cases, conduct judicial confirmation, and then preserve the registered and preserved evidence in accordance with the evidence preservation procedures in accordance with the law, and releases wild animals scientifically and in a timely manner according to law.

Regarding the issues related to the Ailurus in the “April.29” case, the Policy and Law Department of CBCGDF has applied to relevant departments and units for information disclosure, and will update the follow-up of the case.
