DongyingShandong province, is located at the mouth of the Yellow River and has rich wetland resources, where millions of birds come to roost and forage in migration season, including the oriental white stork (Ciconia boyciana). However, due to the high degree of soil salinization in this area and the lack of tall trees, the oriental white stork can only choose to build nests on power line towers, which not only brings danger to the birds, but also increases the risk of power security.

In this regard, the Conservation Area for the Oriental White Stork in Dongying of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and Dongying Power Supply Company innovatively proposed solutions in three aspects. First, to improve the construction standards of overhead power transmission infrastructure in bird-sensitive areas in Dongying. Second, to set up wildlife rescue stations. Third, to adjust the assessment method of the transmission line related to the trip caused by the oriental white stork, and at the same time to give appropriate rewards or praise to the employees who carry out innovative experiments and research the scientific and effective measures of protecting both the birds and the lines, so as to truly realize the idea of “Ecological priority and green development”.
