Occurrence data of Upupa Epops in Pingliang, Gansu Province Released on Global Biodiversity Information Facility

Recently, the GBIF Working Group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received the data of Upupa Epops from Pingliang forest fire brigade of Gansu Province. The relevant data has been recorded and released on the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) platform for reference and download.

The Upupa Epops was rescued by Wang Tianyu of Pingliang forest fire brigade in Pingliang, Gansu Province on July 19, 2022. The Upupa Epops are migratory birds. It is about 30cm in length, with a prominent brown chestnut crest on the top of the head, and a long black bill that bends downward. It often perches on a tree trunk in an open field, garden, or countryside and mainly feeds on insects, earthworms and snails. The Upupa Epops is national second-class protected animal in China and also the national bird of Israel.

 

Citizen scientists are important contributors to biodiversity conservation and biodiversity informatics. Through the GBIF data platform, CBCGDF is making efforts to promote public participation in biodiversity conservation.
