Recently, the International Department of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received a commemorative gift from Yao Jiahui, the United Nations Youth Ambassador and former colleague in CBCGDF. The gift was a silk-made limited First Day Cover on endangered wildlife issued by the United Nations Postal Administration.

These stamps were jointly released by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), to increase people’s awareness of the species listed in the conventions and commemorate the endangered species of the year. About 1000-2000 limited sets are issued on a global scale each year.

As a member or observer of CITES, CMS and many international organizations, CBCGDF has been working on the front line of protecting endangered species and migrating species, and actively engaging in international environmental governance and biodiversity conservation by fully playing the CBCGDF’s functions.

First Day Cover/First Day of Issue is that the whole set or single piece of stamps is attached to the upper right corner of the special envelope, and the cover is stamped with the postal datemark or special commemorative postmark, on the first day of the new stamp issuance.

In February of 2019 and 2020, the UNPA issued the 26th and 27th editions of stamps in endangered species series, respectively, each edition comprehensively demonstrating 12 endangered migratory birds, mammals and marine animals.

To commemorate the stamps on endangered species in 2019 and 2020, UNAP issued a special silk-made limited First Day Cover, which contains such elements as envelope, stamps and seals, and was released by UN, CITES and CMS. The largest endangered-species painting on the left side of the envelope is finely crafted on the silk. Each envelope is put on one stamp of the three places, New York, Geneva and Vienna respectively, with the one code. This means that the envelope has traveled around the earth before the release.
