With the support of the Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) Working Group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), Hongyi Ecological Farm and Siyuan Family Farm simultaneously conducted “Corn Growing with Weeds" experiments in Linyi and Zaozhuang.

The experiment of “Corn growing with Weeds” intends to solve the problems of herbicides, pesticides, chemical fertilizers and genetically modified seeds, and observe the change of corn yield under the conditions of small amount of mechanical interference in the early stage, no herbicide, no manual weeding, using the characteristics of fast growth of corn. (The ideal yield varies by plus or minus 10%).

“Corn growing with Weeds” solves three problems: First, the problem of herbicide pollution or the high cost of artificial weeding; Second, pest problem; the method could use the microenvironment created by weeds to attract natural enemies of pests; Third, the pollution of genetically modified crops can be eliminated at the source.
