Beijing's Covid-19 Prevention and Control is still facing many difficulties. Despite of this, in order not to delay process of the scientific investigation plan, the preparatory meeting of 2022 biodiversity scientific research in Lop Nor and its surrounding areas was held online by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) on May 22.
Members of the scientific research team from Beijing, Hebei, Guangzhou, Hubei, Shaanxi, Xinjiang and other places summarized the results of the previous two years, and discussed and exchanged various preparations for this year's plan. This is the third consecutive year of the large-scale scientific research project has been carried out.
Based on the field work in the previous two years, the scientific research team is compiling the first atlas of the series of scientific research books in Lop Nor and its surrounding areas. In view of the compilation, structure, division of specific chapters and contents of the scientific research atlas, the staff of seven scientific research groups actively put forward detailed suggestions and opinions. According to the work plan, the atlas is expected to be officially published within this year.
Meanwhile, the members have fully discussed on this year's itinerary, research area, research organization and specific preparations. According to the preliminary discussion results, the scientific research in Lop Nor and its surrounding areas in 2022 will still be composed of 7 groups including hydrology group, wild plant group, soil and microorganism group, wild animal group, insect group, aquatic organism group and groundwater group. Each scientific research team will carry out their own research tasks independently under the general theme, and the research area will still mainly focus on the Bosten Lake-Kongque River-Lop Nor water system, the Tarim River-Taitema Lake water system, etc.
“If Covid-19 epidemic in Beijing eases at the end of May, we will strive to start this year's field scientific research as soon as possible,” Dr. Lu Shanlong, from the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, suggested.
The Biodiversity Scientific Research Plan in Lop Nor and its surrounding areas was proposed and launched by CBCGDF in July 2020. Within ten years (2020-2030) this large-scale scientific research project plans to continuously carry out comprehensive scientific expeditions involving animals and plants, soil, surface and groundwater in Lop Nor and surrounding areas in order to analyze and predict the possibility of ecological restoration represented by "sea of death" and to provide scientific support for local ecological environmental protection and governance engineering planning, as well as regional sustainable development.
