On March 2, 2022, Beijing time, the Restoration Conservation and Protection Working Group (AHG 3) under ISO/TC 331 held its first meeting. The agenda of this meeting includes: discussing the scope of work that the organization is responsible for, confirming priorities, and planning future work plans. Dr.Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, and Zhang Daqian from the International Cooperation Department attended the meeting.image.png

At the beginning of the meeting, the moderator first proposed to discuss the specific definitions of the three concepts of restoration, conservation and protection. In his speech at the meeting, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng said that ecological protection is the concept which benefits the most from standardization at present, and we should adhere to the principle of “prevention is better than remediation after the fact”. After further communication, Dr. Zhou said that there are many non-governmental organizations and enterprises that implement the standards. They can also protect and set up protected areas like CBCGDF. Such concepts should be brought to the fore.

After the meeting, the moderator summarized the relevant progress. The working group will refer to documents such as IPBES and IPCC to determine the specific form of relevant concepts and explanations.

Standards are the result of the progress of human civilization and the universal language of the world; biodiversity standards promote the global co-construction of ecological civilization and a shared community of all life on earth. International standards are an important technical basis for the global governance system.
