Recently, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received reports from volunteers that Reeves's Pheasant's feathers are found popular on Taobao.com.
Priced dozens to thousands RMB for decoration, it’s worrisome that the e-trade may threaten the IUCN VU and China's national key protected specie's future.
CBCGDF has long been fighting against illegal wildlife trade. With the emerging e-commerce, some illegal trade in wildlife has transferred online, making e-purchases very easy yet difficult to regulate and trace. Regarding public interest, CBCGDF has launched an Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL) against e-commerce for the sale of illegal hunting gears.
Joint efforts are needed to mainstream biodiversity conservation. CBCGDF calls on e-commerce (in this case, Alibaba's Taobao) to perform its ESG and environmental social responsibilities by strengthening regulation.
