In May, most places in China have entered summer season officially. Qimantag Mountains, the north branch of Kunlun Mountains, are still buried in snow. However, new life has begun to emerge under this frigid weather—Tibetan antelopes are preparing for lambing.

By the end of May, CBCGDF volunteers went up to the mountain to look for Tibetan antelopes. With a high-powered telescope, volunteers saw over 100 of them have traversed the valley and reached the lambing spot. Among the group, there were two to three male antelopes guarding the herd all the way to a riverside. Then, the male left and the rest of the herd continued on their journey until they reached the destination. There was no sight of a second herd within a radius of 40 kilometers.

Bartel is a volunteer at CBCGDF and he spends the majority of his time guarding Kunlun Mountains. He is also a photographer from Mongolia and has been advocating wildlife protection with tons of photos he took with his camera. He said that the lambing season has delayed about 10 days compared to previous years with unknown reasons. Normally, there will be around 6,000 to 7,000 Tibetan antelopes coming to this valley for lambing. Volunteers will later work with the local conservation area to enhance protection and monitoring of the lambing process, making sure that the Tibetan antelopes can give birth safely and smoothly.
