Originated from Qinghai Tibet Plateau, the Yellow River flows through 9 provinces and regions in China with 5464 kilometers. Meanwhile, the Yellow River Basin serves as an important ecological barrier and economic zone, playing a tremendous role in China’s social-economic development and ecological safety. The Draft of Yellow River Protection Legislation (Draft for comments) is underway in a process of opinion seeking from all walks of life, drawing a new blueprint for the ecological civilization in the region.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the Chinese government has been focused on ecological civilization construction while holding a principle that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. At this backdrop, the ecological environment, economic and social development and people's life in the Yellow River Basin have been continuously improved.
However, there are still many challenges ahead. The publishing of the draft provides a legal guarantee on improving the ecological environment, promoting the strategic needs of big governance, facilitating high-quality development of the region, bettering people’s well-being and inheriting the Yellow River Culture.
On May 19, 2021, a discussion of opinion collecting on the Draft of Yellow River Protection Legislation was successfully held in Beijing led by CBCGDF. Experts in the fields of environment, law and policy and delegates of public welfare organizations presented the meeting and offered their suggestions.
Moreover, an ecological investigation has been co-launched by the Publicity Department of CBCGDF, Public Environment Center in Guiyang and CCTV. Penal members will make an on-site investigation in the middle and lower reaches of the river to showcase the new face of the Yellow River in the new era and deliver new energy of ecological priority and green development to the public.
