During his field trip of biodiversity of tropical rainforest in Hainan, China, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng paid a visit to Professor Wang Song, a senior scientist of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and a researcher of the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), for advice on the protection of tropical rainforest biodiversity.
Professor Wang Song is a man of great merit and authority in the field of biodiversity conservation in China. When the CAS and the society as a whole started biodiversity conservation and research in the early 1990s, he served as the leader of the Biodiversity Expert Working Group of CAS, a member of the first and second International Cooperation Committee, and the Chinese leader of Biodiversity Working Group. He has presided over the compilation of many important documents, such as Systematic Search of China’s mammals, Red Paper of China’s Endangered Animals (Four Volumes), Red List of Chinese species (Three Volumes). Mr. Wang Song made a great contribution to the founding of China Elk (Elaphurus davidianus) Foundation, the predecessor of CBCGDF, and the reintroduction of elk.
During the two-and-a-half-hour pleasant conversation, Professor Wang Song gave a detailed introduction to biodiversity protection and introduced the Chinese Species Information System that he established and IUCN Guidelines (World Nature Conservation Information). Dr. Zhou expressed his wish to carry this work forward.
