Case review

In February 2019, the police of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, found 71 live spotted seals cubs in a simple greenhouse in a breeding farm in Hutou Village, Laohutun Town, Wafangdian, Dalian. At the same time, 29 dead spotted seals were found in the area near the greenhouse. After investigation, these spotted seal cubs were illegally hunted from Liaodong Bay by criminals. Subsequently, the 71 spotted seals cubs were sent to relevant units for treatment, but, because they had experienced excessive hunger and infection, another 10 cubs died. Among the 100 spotted seals that were illegally hunted, 39 died and 61 survived.

Relevant expert said: "The long-term and complete dereliction of duty related to supervision is also an important reason. A letter of advice should be sent immediately! "
