On April 25th, CBCGDF volunteers in Tianjin went outside the Jicang Farmers' Market in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, and found that the bird market here was "resuming work". Last winter, due to reports by volunteers, this bird market sold a large number of wild birds and was banned by the local government for a time. This time, the volunteers again found rows of bird cages and formed long queues, which were placed at the door of the farmers market for people to trade.

According to the on-site investigation by volunteers, there are thousands of wild birds used for sale, including the lark, medium tits, yellow belly tits, grosbeak, sparrow, Karl fischer peony parrot, etc., Karl fischer peony parrot is listed as Near Threatened (NT) species in the IUCN Red List.

After the volunteers called the police, the police did not know how to manage them at first. Later, most of the vendors left, and only a small number of wild birds were sold at the sales site. It is hoped that relevant departments can pay attention to the illegal sales in the local bird market and protect wild animals.

Investigation of Wild Bird Trade in Cangzhou, Hebei Province: Volunteers Were Threatened by Bird Dealers, Grabbed Mobile Phone, and Finally Escorted by Police Cars Before Leaving Safely

On the evening of April 25, after a day of investigation of the wild bird trade in Cangzhou, Hebei, the volunteers felt terrified. "The vendors in the bird market were rampant, some scolded us, some grabbed our mobile phones, and some bird dealers said on the spot that if there were no police, they would kill us. When they finally left, the police sandwiched our car in the middle. A police car in front and back protected us, and we safely left the bird market. "

Birds are the guardians of the ecological environment, and they have made important contributions to maintaining a healthy ecosystem. However, this contribution has not been fully recognized. The huge number of birds brought by the bird market is captured from the wild every year. Finally, we can see a living bird in the bird market, but we can't see the other large number of dead birds in the chain of poaching. The wild bird trade has seriously damaged public environmental interests.

After the report, after waiting for a whole day, Cangzhou Forestry Bureau did not come at last. Finally, the birds were handed over to a local bird rescue professor in Cangzhou. However, the industrial and commercial department was pretty supported. After receiving the report, the director personally went to the scene to understand the situation.

Thanks to the local public security department and industry and commerce department. We also want to know why we have waited so hard for a whole day, but Cangzhou Forestry Bureau did not show up.
