Recently, Dr. Sara Platto, Secretary-General of the Biology and Science Ethics (BASE) Working Committee of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and Lead Scientist of CBCGDF’s Wildlife Rescue Expert Group, held a Skype meeting with representatives of the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC). The meeting mainly drew up a plan to train Dr. Sara Platto to master the monitoring, planning and educational tools of GARC in rabies prevention. At the same time, CBCGDF also plans to provide relevant training for professionals, professional veterinarians and those who are willing to participate in rabies education of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) through the knowledge and experience gained by Dr. Sara after completing the special training of GARC.

The four courses for general people are the following:

1. The Rabies Educator Certificate (REC). It equips people with the knowledge and skills to effectively disseminate accurate, lifesaving information regarding rabies and its prevention in at-risk communities.

2. The Animal Handling and Vaccination Certificate (AVC) course. It is addressed to veterinarians and veterinary nurses. The AVC course should be followed by physical training under the guided supervision of a professional and is also suitable for trained professionals who wish to refresh their knowledge and stay up to date regarding new techniques and tools on dog handling and vaccination.

3. The Community Coordinator for Rabies Certificate (CCC). helps individuals to become the focal point of rabies prevention in their community. As with the AVC, you need to complete the Rabies Educator Certificate in order to enroll for this course.

4. The Rabies Healthcare Certificate (RHC).  has been designed specifically for human healthcare professionals (human doctors, hospital nurses) to increase proficiency in all elements of managing potential human rabies cases.

Then, there will be specific training for CDC professional on the rabies surveillance and planning tools.

As the above training courses need to translate a large number of relevant English materials into Chinese for students to study, CBCGDF will provide internship opportunities (remote internship is available) for the majority of senior students majoring in English and translation. After the internship, the students will also receive the recognition certificate issued by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) (For more details, please contact: dj@cbcgdf.org)

The specific information of the above training courses will be released in April this year. Stay tuned for more from related CBCGDF new media platforms.
