On January 9, Li Ganjie, Minister of Ecology and Environment, and Ms. Elizabeth Mrema, Acting Executive Secretary of UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), jointly released the logo of the 2020 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15).

The logo of COP15 is composed of different elements in the shape of "water droplets", which integrates traditional Chinese culture and various natural symbols, fully reflects biodiversity and cultural diversity, and fits the theme of the conference " Ecological Civilization – Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth". It perfectly interprets the 2050 vision of the CBD that live in harmony with nature and the desire of the world to build an ecological civilization together. The Chinese government will actively promote the preparations for COP15, work with the Convention Secretariat and all parties concerned to host a successful and landmark COP.

Elizabeth Mrema thanked China for its tremendous efforts in preparing for COP15. She pointed out that the logo has distinctive Chinese characteristics and echoes the theme of the conference. It is believed that the successful holding of the conference can promote countries around the world to take necessary measures to strengthen biodiversity conservation and jointly build a beautiful future in which people and nature live in harmony.

Logo description: The design concept of the logo comes from Chinese paper-cut art and seal culture. The overall image of the logo is not only full of affinity, full of memory, but also closely related to the theme, with distinctive Chinese characteristics.

The logo uses different elements to form a "water droplet", which is also the shape of a "seed". "Water droplet" means that water is the source of life and the source of all things. Little girls, pandas, peacocks, butterflies, plum blossoms, sprays and other elements use Oracle as the background, reflecting biodiversity and cultural diversity, and expressing the CBD's 2050 vision-the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, and the global construction of ecological civilization aspiration; the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework to be adopted by COP15 is like a seed. Under the joint cultivation of various parties and stakeholders, gorgeous flowers will emerge in the next ten years and bear fruit.

The "China Kunming" mark in the lower right corner of the logo indicates the place where the COP is held and also displays the unique Chinese seal culture; the logo uses Oracle as the design background, with mountains, water, forest, fields, grass, flowers, birds, insects, fish and other text. As the earliest hieroglyphics in China, Oracle from scratch has promoted the progress of Chinese civilization and human civilization step by step, telling the world the history and connotation of the ancient country of oriental civilization.
