Guangxi Terrestrial Wildlife Rescue and Epidemic Disease Detection Center “Adopted” CBCGDF’s Recommendation: The Tracker Was Worn for the Pangolin and the Wild Release Was Carried Out

Recently, the Guangxi Terrestrial Wildlife Rescue and Epidemic Disease Detection Center published an article - we learned that they finally "adopted" the recommendation of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), carried out the pangolin's wild release, and also wore a tracker for them. We are not surprised that Guangxi overturned the conclusions of its former organization experts (that is, the number of pangolins is small, so it is impossible to put them in the wild and cannot wear the tracker). Although CBCGDF was not invited to participate in the actions of Guangxi side this time, their suggestions and efforts were not recognized, but we still felt inspiration and support from their pangolins wearing trackers and implementing the field release action, and also hope that it is able to accept the supervision of the people to carry out work in accordance with the law, scientifically and practically.

In February 2019, the Department of Forestry of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region contacted CBCGDF for the first time for the wild releasing pangolins and invited CBCGDF to inspect the location of the release and held a seminar. At the seminar, the experts invited by the Department of Forestry of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region rejected the releasing pangolins in the wild in the form of the conclusion of the expert group on the grounds that the tracker was too heavy and the number was small and could not form a wild population.

On October 9, 2019, the Guangxi Terrestrial Wildlife Rescue and Epidemic Disease Detection Center released the news article of two Chinese pangolins were released in the wild by them on social media platform, claiming that "the guarantee that the pangolins are not much different from the wild pangolins in terms of related behaviors can be selected to be released in the wild". People can't help but be surprised by this statement. And of the released pangolins, can be seen a tracker is worn above its tail. The reason for using the word "adoption" is because, in the previous experts' seminar, only CBCGDF's "Pangolin Girl" insisted on wearing a tracker for pangolin while releasing in the wild. In this way, she hopes that the experts can understand the purpose of the tracker and understand how to carry out the protection work after the wild release (this expectation was generated because the Department of Forestry of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and their expert team had no relevant experience and totally disagreed with the practice in previous meetings). Despite criticism and blasphemy in the past and the fact that the "Pangolin Girl" has not been mentioned in this article by the Guangxi Terrestrial Wildlife Rescue and Epidemic Disease Detection Center, we are delighted that the cause of protecting endangered species is progressing.
