CBCGDF's Submission for Draft Consideration by the CBD COP14 (V)
2018/12/16 19:34:00 本站

[Editor's Note:] Lately, CBCGDF colleagues answered the calls of the colleagues from IUCN/WCPA/OECMs, in terms of the “OECMs | Second Interim update from COP 14” and submitted relevant materials of efforts toward the Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.

This is remarkable because following the adoption of OECM guidelines, an important next step is to comprehensively map and document the conservation interventions that may ultimately be recognized as OECMs. OECMs will help recognize important contributions to the conservation of biodiversity occurring outside PAs and generate a range of important innovations across landscapes and seascapes in the run-up to and beyond 2020.

Also, a progress has been made at CBD COP 14: Agenda Item 24 (‘Spatial Planning, Protected Areas and OECMs’) was considered in Working Group very recently. The Chair requested that Parties provide written submissions to the Secretariat.

CBCGDF is an important member of IUCN, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of CBCGDF is a member of WCPA as well as its OECMs (Task Force on Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures). Hence, as our international colleagues are updating on the process and substance of the draft decision know as a conference room paper (CRP), and they are making their assessment now and looking forward to our thoughts, CBCGDF colleagues have provided our work efforts as follows:

China Conservation Area (for something at somewhere) a.k.a CCAfa;

Oppose Electro Fishing Union of CBCGDF (public participation in the Conservation);

Anti-poaching and illegal wildlife trade;

Say NO to inappropriate wildlife release

China’s youth generation’s participating in biodiversity conservation

Pay attention to the participation of young people in biodiversity conservation

Having been convinced that the young generation will serve as the main force in sustainable development, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development, CBCGDF, with its aim of building a comprehensive and interactive network for green actions, knowledge and resources, respectively established "Green Great", which refers to the international platform of College Students Environmentalist Community and "Great Youth", another environmental voluntary group that is made up of elementary school and middle school students, in ways to boost green development sustainably. By far, relevant works of CBCGDF have been promoted by Green Great members across the world, and meanwhile, a good number of significant lectures, events, and activities have been launched among Green Youth.

As Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of UN told the CBCGDF representative in 2018 Future Consensus Forum: Next Civilized City and Sustainable Development that the potentials of the young generation in sustainable development cannot be overlooked, the CBCGDF-launched Green Great and Great Youth has fully demonstrated their power and commitment into biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and green development. With an appropriate scientific and technological assistant, resources provision and funding support from CBCGDF, Green Great have by far achieved fruitful results in regarding areas.

On April 12, 2018, Dr. Huo Da, a member of Green Great in Hong Kong made his voice heard by the world in Workshop of Increasing Transparency and Effectiveness in Cases of Wildlife Crime. On behalf of CBCGDF, he shared with attendees across the world about what China has achieved in cracking down poaching and illegal trade of wildlife and especially mentioned great efforts that CBCGDF has made into protecting endangered animals, inquiring into and combating pangolin trade, "the counting year of pangolins" and relevant environmental public interest litigations so as to call for international attention and stress the importance of public engagement in effectively promoting the protection of endangered species.

On November 13, 2017, Green Great member Xiao Yingjia in Switzerland, together with the international advisor of CBCGDF Frederick Dubee participated in Greenaccord in Italy where she delivered China's voice in related areas and introduced CBCGDF's work, experiences and efforts in biodiversity conservation and green development, which made the world came to understand the fundamental strategy of China's ecological conservation and the Chinese government's determination in promoting green sustainable development and environmental protection.

Beyond that, Green Great members have taken active and ‘green' roles in every possible way. On campuses, the CBCGDF-initiated recycling resources, "let weeds grow", "Good Food" and other environmental programs have been fully acted upon by Green Great. What they have done so far has pushed forward the change of a greener, healthier and more sustainable lifestyle and contributed significantly to environmental career and a great future in a regarding area can be predicted.

Green Youth have been also played a crucial role in contributing to biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and green development. On the occasion of Katowice Climate Change Conference, UNFCCC CoP24 on December 3, 2018, green youth in Zhong Ke Qi Yuan School, inspired by Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF's lecture, calling for reducing waste of food and clothes, stopping using plastic book covers, using fewer disposable chopsticks and plates and drinking less bottled water. More importantly, Green Youth representatives called on the youth across the world through CCTV Channel to be the "Green Child" and to make a better world for all.

The Green Youth's efforts can also be seen in the China Conservation Area for something at somewhere (CCAfa) supported by CBCGDF. In September, led by CBCGDF and local volunteers, green youth came to China Conservation Area for Chinese White Crane at Baiyangdian to pick up garbage, water Acer pentaphyllum diels, a critically endangered plant and call for the local community to join the environmental protection and biodiversity conservation in this area.

On April 16, 2018, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF brought his lecture in terms of pangolin and its protection to Chengfu Primary School, which attracted great attention from the students and school to the protection of this critically endangered creature. And after three months, CBCGDF sent a letter to the textbook publishing company, proposing to delete the content in which pangolin was sorted as pharmaceuticals. As a result, in the following version, such content is nowhere to be found.

The young generations represent the future of the planet. Through the spreading of green thoughts geographically, mentally and culturally, CBCGDF established the Green Great and Green Youth with the commitment to transforming the thinking and lifestyle of the young generations so as to push forward Belt and Road Initiative, a Community of Shared Future for Mankind and sustainable development regarding the environment, ecology, and climate change.
