On July 9th, 2023, Dr. Jinfeng Zhou, Secretary General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), and his team had an online meeting with Fredrik Galtung, CEO/Founder of TrueFootprint. The discussion revolved around how to collaborate in promoting climate actions, particularly in the context of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP28), and fostering active engagement of multiple stakeholders.

Dr. Zhou provided an overview of CBCGDF's work, its organizational structure, and its efforts in addressing climate change. He emphasized the importance of human-based solutions (HbS) and highlighted the initiative of The International Climate Conference of People (ICCOP). The conference aims to provide an opportunity for everyone to participate in global climate change discussions and governance, showcasing success stories, sharing experiences, and learning best practices.
Mr. Fredrik Galtung introduced the 100 Million Livelihoods initiative, a proposal for major companies to work together to implement nature-based solutions within their value chains, key markets and sourcing countries, while putting the world’s 500 millions small holder farmers and local communities at the centre of those solutions.
The meeting served as a platform to explore potential collaborations between CBCGDF and TrueFootprint. They discussed the significance of leveraging technology and data to enhance transparency, accountability, and impact assessment in climate actions. Both parties recognized the importance of engaging various stakeholders, including governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and individuals, to achieve effective and inclusive climate solutions.
Furthermore, Dr. Zhou and Mr. Galtung acknowledged the upcoming UNFCCC COP28 as a pivotal moment to accelerate climate actions. They emphasized the need to mobilize resources, promote knowledge sharing, and foster partnerships to support ambitious climate targets and sustainable development goals. They also expressed their commitment to facilitating dialogue and cooperation among different sectors and regions, promoting collaboration on climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building initiatives.
As the meeting concluded, Dr. Zhou and Mr. Galtung expressed optimism about the potential synergies between CBCGDF and TrueFootprint. They recognized the value of collective efforts, innovation, and collaboration in addressing the urgent challenges of climate change. Both organizations pledged to continue working together to promote climate actions, amplify the voices of all stakeholders, and advance a sustainable and resilient future.
