The data was provided by Mr. Geng Guo, the expert of CBCGDF, who recently discovered the Phasianus colchicus (common pheasant) in a wetland in Beidaihe in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province.

The common pheasant is a bird in the pheasant family (Phasianidae). Common pheasants are medium-sized birds with deep, pear-shaped bodies, small heads and long, thin tails. They are sexually dimorphic, with males being more colorful and larger than females. Males have spectacular, multi-colored plumage with long, pointed, barred tails and fleshy red eye patches.

The common pheasant is a non-migratory species native to Eurasia. The native range extends from the Caspian Sea, east across central Asia to China, and includes Korea, Japan, and former Burma. It was introduced to Europe, North America, New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii.

Common pheasants occupy grassland and farmland habitats. They prefer relatively open cover, such as grass and stubble fields and are found in habitats with grass, ditches, hedges, marshes, and tree stands or bushes for cover.

Citizen scientists are important contributors to biodiversity conservation and biodiversity informatics. Through the GBIF data platform, CBCGDF is making efforts to promote public participation in biodiversity conservation.
