Illegal Mining in the Name of Raising Pigs, Turning Green Hills of Original Ecological Village into Barren Mountains | A Letter from CBCGDF Volunteers

In mid-April 2023, the Research Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) received reports from volunteers that stones from the Niulingang Mountains in Manao Village, Danxi Town, Yueqing City, Zhejiang Province, were stolen in the name of building a pig farm, which is destroying forest land and the ecological environment, blasting the mountain without approval caused cracks in the walls of many villagers' houses, etc.

Volunteers explained the problems in detail with pictures, videos, and text. Yueqing Huatong Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd. cheated the villagers and signed a twin-contracts with the village committee to mine in the name of pig farming, and then used the pig farm to obtain breeding subsidies from the local government. This company processes ore into crushed stones for sale, and the accumulation of ore occupies forests and farmland. After the villagers reported the situation to the relevant departments, the company restored the farmland by laying turf. In fact, under the turf are covered stones and construction waste, which cannot be cultivated at all.
